PLEASE HELP WITH OUR NEW EXHIBIT
1800’s Historic Naval Store

As we take a stroll through the pages of history, we see that nations have coveted these tree-sourced treasures, often leading to conflict and competition, as they understood the power these resins held. Even as the sailing ships faded from the tides of history, the demand for these natural products endured. The adaptability of naval stores has ensured their relevance, even amid the rise of petrochemicals.
In regions like Southeast Georgia, the story of naval stores is woven into the very fabric of the local economy and community. While other parts of the South embraced the art of tapping into trees early on, the Western Gulf states took their time, developing their own unique methods. This included harvesting the resinous remnants of virgin pine stumps, creating a sustainable cycle from what was left behind.
At Southern Forest World, we are committed to illuminating this remarkable legacy. Our mission is to educate our visitors on the significance of forestry in our region, and the naval stores industry is a crucial element of that narrative. As we embark on creating an engaging exhibit dedicated to naval stores, we invite you to join us in exploring this fascinating history that shaped our environment and economy.
When you visit, you won’t just be seeing a collection of historical artifacts; you’ll be stepping into a story that spans generations, revealing how deeply intertwined our lives are with these natural resources. We believe that by understanding our past, we can better appreciate the present and cultivate a sustainable future.
So come, immerse yourself in the world of forestry and discover the rich heritage of naval stores. Together, let’s keep this essential part of our Southern story alive for generations to come.

Together, we can breathe life into history and keep the story of forestry and naval stores thriving for years to come.
Stuckie’s Summer Camp was such a hit with our son! He had such a wonderful week! He learned and retained so much information! I was blown away! The learning, crafts, activities, water day, snow cones, backpack of goodies, t-shirt, stuffed animal, the list could go on… it was much more than we were expecting! The leaders and volunteers went above and beyond to make sure the kids had a wonderful, memorable week! Our son is already looking forward to next year! Thank you, Southern Forest World!
